What to eat around a sauna session
Hydration and electrolytes matter more than you think.
Heat exposure makes you sweat out water and electrolytes — mostly sodium, plus some potassium and magnesium. Replacing them is what separates feeling great from feeling wiped.
Before
- Drink 300–500 ml of water in the 30 min before.
- A pinch of salt or an electrolyte drink helps you retain it.
- Avoid a heavy meal right beforehand.
After
- Rehydrate with water plus electrolytes, not water alone.
- Protein within an hour or two supports recovery if you trained.
- Watch alcohol — it compounds dehydration.
