Cold plunge timing for muscle growth
When cold helps — and when it quietly costs you.
Cold-water immersion is excellent for recovery and soreness. But timing matters if building muscle is your goal.
Plunging immediately after strength training may blunt some of the muscle-growth signaling that the workout triggers.
The rule
- Pure recovery or a rest day? Plunge whenever you like.
- Trying to build muscle? Leave 4–6 hours between lifting and cold.
- On cardio or skill days, timing matters far less.
